look at the topic that i'm gonna blog today, interesting or devastating?
why i wanna touch on this topic?
simply because my company summer trip this year is heading to Bali, Indonesia.
bali is an island located in between java and east timur groups of island.. and bali is well known as one of the top 10 world destination (beside tioman) for tourist.
but the top tourist attraction also attract bombers
in 2002 follow by 2004, bali well known as one of the famous massacre place for the 'angmoh' and my ex-boss almost lost his life in the 2004 bombing.
somehow that day his group of golf buddies skip their usual route and dine at those road stall nearby instead of that restaurant.
my summer trip is around the corner but these few weeks, indonesian & my colleagues are wide awake of a few chain of devastating events
- bloodshed in east timor
- mount merapi volcano showed increase activity, belching more lava & heat clouds
- earthquake (6.3 richter scale) on 27/05/06 with death toll surpass 5100 in central java
- earthquake (5.5 to 6.2 richter scale) on 28/05/06 in northern philippines and south pacific (papua new guinea)
scary? some of my colleagues even suggest we write our will, etc.. hope we'll have a safe summer trip man, to indonesia - alhamdullilah, protect us
Strata Suites
damn.. i should blog on Strata instead of the earthquake
here it goes, and just opposite the apartment that i stay, just next to St Michael school, damn irritating cos such a small place they manage to build a condominium there.
this is the problem with district 11, super expensive place which the condo equipped with swimming pool, jacuzzi n gymnasium too, tenure = 999 years with 100 units only
oh.. it almost complete but i need to endure few yrs of dusty environment, thanks to this stupid strata here, kns
pricing & floor area?
ok, give u ppl some idea how expensive (or if u think cheap) this strata is :
047 sqm - $(430 to 460)k
078 sqm - $(658 to 700)k
099 sqm - $(800 to 870)k
120 sqm - $900k
152 sqm - $120k
overall it is still cheaper than the Novena Suites which near TTS hospital, which fetch around 1.6m per unit

tree-top walk :
an emergency plan to replace our badminton game on SunDay, thanks to my buddy cos he overslept n miss the booking time
so my feilou buddy suggest tree-top walk
wake-up at 7am, 7.30am my kaki already waiting at lobby, reach venus drive around 8.15am.. but my other kaki's late, some go wrong place lar, some dunno why late, etc..
but interestingly, so many ppls there and i even bump into one of my office contractor with his wife n kids.

so after some tiring wait, we start our journey at last.. ard 9am

but after some twist n turn (ard 15 mins), we're so disappointed.. our path lead into a new path & this path is the path to a country club nearby.
it totally spoilt our mood, i expect some jungle walk... not into a modern country club with beautiful tarmar road
then we encounter a lots of foreign worker cutting grasses, lawn the field, blown away the debris, etc... we at last go back into the jungle track

and as the name implies, it really on top of the tree, in fact e bridge located too high above the trees, hence didn't blend into e nature comfortably at all

just that the equipment that we bought along are too expensive to be drenched. we take out our shirt n wrap our camera tight, run like mad man for another 10+ mins to the carpark

so to reward ourselves, we drive to casuarina for roti prata/canai and stuff ourselves with all types of prata n teh tarik

kinda like company event, recreation activities.
u know lar, wake-up so early n to some, a 10km walk is like hard labor.. hence not many interested in joining, they'll rather sleep n rest instead of walk
my lovely sister 'ah-tear' is the best, bother to rise early & even make sandwish for us, what can you expect much?
another one is chiew fang, super quiet girl... probably due to her quiet nature or ??? stay faraway but still make an effort to join us
but still the same her, always late, haiz.....
wake-up at 6am, 6.30am my colleague already at my apartment lobby. after the bigwalk n meet-up my buddy for lunch, then stuck at bugis due to heavy rain
this yr bigwalk is quite ordinary but as our group reach there, the walk already started. my friends are one of the Nikon photographer which tag along the main group to get some nice shoot.

this week is not really a good week, stock market going down in all asian countries (of course except China). not even stock market, asian currency also weakened, mirroring stock market losses after Wall Street's drop on fears of further US rate hikes and spark a massive sell down!
REASON :
Selling was sparked by higher-than-expected consumer prices in the United States - data taken to suggest that the Federal Reserve may continue raising interest rates.
The US markets are hit by inflation fears and a drop in housing starts!
Market remains gripped by anxieties about the West's nuclear standoff with Iran, the threat of supply disruptions in Nigeria and the upcoming Gulf of Mexico hurricane season.
simple analogy, inflation in US, hence Fed increase the bank interest rate.
meaning - borrowing money more expensive lor while putting money inside the bank will yield more, so understand the impact on business n economy?
easy to understand, right?
maybe i just worry too much lar but those stocks that i hold, are really cooler than ice water, basically freeze. 1st qtr of the year still above sea level, now below sea level, drowning and one of it is Creative, she's such a let down!
initially spending 200m+ to launch a head-on war with apple to beat their ipod market share but suffer operating loss, suddenly her stock nose dive... from a massive $28 to a low $14
this 2nd quarter suffer another 150m+ of operating loss, still trying to sue apple on some patent infringement, now apple counter sue.. so these few days, nose dive again to a low $9
ok.. enough of stock story, now back to the main story.

The US markets are hit by inflation fears and a drop in housing starts!
george soros mention that yr 2007 might be a recession year, especially a huge drop in housing in US consumers.. of course those irritating (so call smart) analyst quick to point out that the effect of US consumers on the world economy outlook are lessen now with the up-rising of China, but we'll see.
i'll rather keep n save some cash, when the market plunge, then it is a gd time to buy...
buy stock/share like buy stuffs in supermarket, damn easy lar

argh.. today i got a damn good sleep, peaceful n have a sufficient sleep hour
i still remember i got a dream, damn stupid funny dream.. at my house and as the rain stop, my mum say our dog (we got a dog house) is wet, get it a towel
somehow my dog is damn big n large, so my mom pass the towel to my dog and the dog can place the towel nicely into its body n mop it by itself, so amazing
then suddenly wake-up by my phone ring.. when i open my eye, my room very bright, i still got a split second to think (even the phone is ringing), today not a working day right?
then i saw e caller "Ismail", damn, he's my company transport driver:
ismail : eh.. u coming today?
kok : ( i look at my watch, already 7.13am), oh.. shit, i overslept lar
ismail : haha, then how? still coming?
kok : nvm lar, u go ahead, sorry hor, i take cab
ismail : ok
damn it, what is happening man, why i wake-up so blur today?
then i saw my alarm clock, kns... it stop at 3am+
u try to be funny again, i'll change u.. kns. yr job is to wake me up, not keep quiet n stop at 3am instead of 7am, a little bit only.. also give-up
what to do beside take my time n have a gd shower n take a cab? ken told me, stupid lar, slowly take train n bus lar but i told him i scare later take bus, round, round n round, also cannot reach company cos i never take bus before lei
there goes my 18 bucks, can eat many days of lunch here lei

today am attending a security n continuity seminar at meritus mandarin... more into security defense system, automation, filtering and infrastructure enhancement.
i just hope to have a quiet morning but ard 11am+ my subordinate started to bombard my pda with misc stupid issues, damn...
maybe i just too lenient with them, or treat them too nice and always help them... my current n previous boss keep telling me, somehow coincidentally similar - i just want u to know what they're doing, not asking you to know how to do their work!
if i employ you to also do their work, then i dun need to employ you because u're more expensive than them, understand?

not so chim but not an easy task also lar... maybe i should listen to my another subordinate, she told me : after u came, most infrastructure project already handle by you, she quite free lately. ok, i agree with her...
but those kiddies dun think as what we mature ppl think, ok
my definition on MATURE is very different from the normal mature, i'm talking about mindset and these kiddies are just everywhere.
i still remember my ex colleague (she's an accts officer) telling me that our newly hired angmoh CFO know nothing, shit.. dunno employ her for what, monthly take home pay more than 20k, sit there do nothing.
sooooooo - same here too, my subordinate got problems with my predessor because the guy know nothing on infrastructure n network, hence she take this opportunity to show-off n keep by-passing him which irritate my boss v much.
i tell her off straight away - do u ever think that if the cfo or manager do all yr works, why should the company employ u at the 1st place?
conclusion - mindset separate a man from the boy, woman from a gal, nothing else.

my BaTAM Adventure
oh.. u know, keep u ppl update on my vesak day activity
---- go batam for a day tour ----
basically my colleague just sprout out that why not go batam for a short trip, haha.. ok, just 1 day tour which cost us ard SGD50 + SGD15 (misc tax)
now i know seaport also got tax, now petrol price go up, they take this opportunity to hike the price too, damn it
ok lar, this 50 bucks include a seafood meal, city tour, transportation and ferry thru n flow between s'pore n batam
seafood meal : small crab, small prawn, some snails, green coconut (sour one), some sambal kangkong, sotong, etc... cannot expect much lar, right?
we go in groups, those gals taking cab together while i opt for the most efficient mode of transport, by train.. and alas, i'm the 1st one who reach n get the tickets for them. those ppl, say so loud to me, dun late hor, we reach there eat breakfast.. haiz...
say 7.15am meetup at delifrance, i get the ticket n already having breakfast with my brother.. imagine taking cab also can reach at 8am+, i admire them, all silly2 n blur2, maybe too early for them lar
then another sickening talkative colleague from our group call me last minutes..

polo shop - outside the POLO shop got many streets hawker selling fruits n artworks, those that not interest me lar, not many are buying actually
here's the money, we suddenly carry so much money that day in our life
SGD1 = RP5400, but 1 packet of keropok cost us RP10k, wow, like those eerrrr.. in chinese tradition, those dead ppl's money, yiak!

when i reach 1st level, i saw our bus is moving, damn.. i say, i speed up but when i reach the front door, the sensor not working
fuck man.. what the fuck! then i notice they purposely lock it.. i guess to save aircon cos that damn shopping mall - IMAGINE THIS - THEY DIDN'T TURN ON THE AIR-CONDITIONING
1st time in my life i shop till i perspire, alamak..
once i get out from the side door, i'm too late, i saw our bus already turning out to the main gate n run away... lucky one of the guy there phone our stupid fat tour guide, she say she's a filipino work as a tour guide there, then come back n pick us up!
dun even bother to count, we only late less than 5 mins, kns them...
oh.. our seafood meal, i'd try the snails, tasteless

aha.. one thing i should praise batam authority, they keep their washroom/toilet really clean n nice. i can say their toilet is much cleaner and better than what s'pore MRT station have, dun compare to what our hawker center one, damn sickening
some of our shopping mall, go toilet also need to pay money.. pay money also dirty, damn it, should send those auntie/uncles to batam n learn from there - skills upgrading
